Volkswagen working on a version of SEAT Toledo and Skoda Rapid
The current German brand Volkswagen Santana and Volkswagen Jetta sold in China are currently already have a replacement officers that will be presented later this year. More specifically, will be seen first in the Guangzhou Motor Show. On these two new models are variants of existing SEAT Toledo and Skoda Rapid.
It will be manufactured under the name of Santana via a joint venture (to have an official presence in China must ally with a local company, otherwise you can only export products from outside) with Shanghai-Volkswagen, a basic economic objective, being called Santana and FAW-VW Jetta with the name, which is expected to have a more defined and more distinctive.
Currently not many details have been released on these two saloons in terms of mechanics. But rumors guessed that it could have consist of two petrol engines range, a 1.4-liter 90 hp and 110 hp 1.6-liter. Moreover, the very FAW has confirmed that could produce up to 1,200 units per day of this new vehicle, so it would be talking about 375,000 cars a year or more nor less.
Volkswagen has also made clear that despite developing these two new models, the above will continue to manufacture and market as there is demand. For now we can say little, except that both cars are expected to have a rigid rear axle to hold Chinese roads as they tend to be in worse shape than Europe or America.
